Vegan Month Of FOod

160x220_g3Life is full of surprises and new beginnings. And this month is a doozy. I wanted to reboot the Vegan Urbanite with some fresh content and fanatic energy, so I’ve signed on for Vegan MOFO 2013. If you’re not familiar with Vegan MOFO it’s a month of daily blogging (EST) on vegan related matters.

September will certainly be a month of firsts. Running with the theme of New Beginnings, here is a peek at what you’re in for:

~ VU goes raw for a week. I’m a little nervous about this one but interested to see if there are any visible effects after 7 days of eating at least 80% raw.

~Moving cities. Yes, we are packing up and moving to another city ┬ácountry! After 8 years of living abroad I’m returning to New Zealand with my three animal companions to begin a new career.

~Vegan sunscreen. How sunscreens aren’t vegan and my recommendations.

~An ethical and observational probe into zoos around the world (with some outrageous and disturbing pictures).

~Interview with Tobias Leenaert on Germany’s popular Meat Free Monday’s.

~Restaurant reviews and of course recipes galore! Stay tuned

I am excited ..for everything but the zoo thing :( I watched Blackfish last night that should strike people at the core if zoos don’t already.
Good luck with the move !

      Thanks Ruth.
I know what you mean about zoos. I’ve been putting it off for a long time because they upset me so much. But as I’m painfully aware, you must know your enemy to fight them efficiency. I may have to watch Blackfish as research – whilst I cuddle my dog.

  2. Nice to meet another vegan blogger in the Travel category for VeganMoFo! Good luck with the move to NZ! I love NZ!

      Oh Cheers VeganMiam,
I’m a huge traveler and living as a westerner in South Korea has definitely been one of the biggest challenges. I’m expecting New Zealand to be much easier, but that will only raise the expectations. I look forward to following your journey this month too.

I’m so excited to read! I’ve been vegan for 2 years, but until right now I had no idea that sunscreen is not vegan. I guess it’s good that I don’t wear it (and also terrible that I don’t because I’m outside a ton). Really looking forward to reading that one :)

Blackfish is not as bad as you may think (bear in mind I refused to watch the Cove and Colin and I fast forwarded any scenes of the whales being taken from the wild)
Let me know your (and your pups) thoughts when you watch it.
Good luck with the zoo article ;)

  5. Happy MoFo! Your lineup of posts sounds great. I am looking forward to the sunscreen one because I’m kind of a freak about sunscreen as in–I wear it on my face like everyday because I’m scared of wrinkles. Right now I am using suntegrity which I like but I want to know more about other brands.

    Awesome blog!
